What are the rules in the classroom?
1) Make smart choices
2) Raise your hand to speak or stand
3) Listen when the speaker is talking.
4) Follow directions quickly
5) Be safe, be kind, be honest.

The Golden Rule: Treat others how you would like to be treated.
When are library books due?

Library books are due the day before library checkout. Students are reminded in the morning as they enter the classroom to put their book in the black book basket. The book basket will be brought down to the library each day, so if the student brings back the book early that is fine, too. Backpacks are not checked for library books, as the students are responsible for getting the books into the cart.

How can I help my child become more successful in school?
Positive encouragement and taking time each night to do monthly homework activities, backpack reading, math games, and sight word practice. There are many links on this blog that are wonderful educational tools.

How does the day 1-6 schedule work?

The day schedule helps us keep track of which days we have specials. The day schedule is on the full year calendar that I sent home on BTS night. If we have a snow day, we will still follow the schedule (ex. day 3 was a snow day, the next day back at school will still be a day 3). This is helpful for you to keep track of so you know when library books are due. The children have gym every day, so they will need to wear tennis shoes daily.

How cold does it have to be for indoor recess?
The wind chill must be -15 degrees before the children will stay indoors for recess. This is set by the district, and this is why it is so important to send appropriate winter clothing!

Can I request that my child stay indoors?
Without a doctor's note, your child is allowed one day to sit in the office during recess. This is only normally done when a child forgets essential winter gear, like snow-pants/hat/gloves on a very cold day. Otherwise, your child needs to be outdoors where there is supervision!

What winter gear does my child need to have?
When winter arrives, children will need a coat, snow-pants, snow-boots, a hat, and mittens. Scarves are encouraged as well. Please carefully label all gear with your child's name. Teach your child how to quickly put on and take off winter gear, as they will only have a short amount of time to get ready and play. I ask that you teach your child to put their accessories in a coat sleeve (hat, mittens, scarf, etc.) so that they can easily keep track of these items. It's very common for items to get lost in school!

Who should I call if my child is absent?

Call the office. It is also helpful if you send me a quick email to let me know where your child is.

Can my child wear dress shoes, sandals, or cute boots?

Please wear gym shoes every day. During the winter, it is easiest to send your child in all of their snow gear so they do not have to carry it. They will change into their gym shoes when they get into the classroom. Wearing gym shoes each day cuts out a long transition of changing shoes before gym. Thanks for your cooperation!

How will conference times be set up?
You will receive an email from BlackBoard that includes a link for you to register and sign up for conferences online. I will also send out a reminder email including the link after blackboard does. There will be two days to choose from: you'll select a time that works for you. I know there are a lot of split families, and I sympathize, but please plan to meet at the same conference together.

Who should my child report to if they had an incident in specials or on the playground at recess?
Recess paras are the adults that your child should report to on the playground. If there is a bigger issue, the para will report to me. During specials, such as music, that teacher is in charge of your child. As always, I am here for my students in whatever they need. However, if you have a question about something that happened outside the classroom, I may not be able to answer it but I can get help get you in contact with the specialist.

Should I be worried if my child does not come home with his/her lunch-bag or snow-pants?

Label everything! I would even suggest putting the teacher's last name on it as well so that if it is found somewhere, it may be returned (otherwise it will end up in the lost and found). Teachers may not always remember if they saw the item; it is hard to keep track of 22 pairs of black snow-pants. :) Please teach your child to keep track of their belongings. Any items left in the lost and found will be donated by the school: this happens at winter break and summer vacation. Make sure to visit before these times if you are missing something!
